JI CHAI
INFO

Ji Chai is a sculptor and installation artist born on China’s northeastern border. Working in jade, bone, ceramic, bamboo and concrete, her practice transforms everyday industrial and ritual objects into monuments for the overlooked.

Central to her work is the Shamate — a youth subculture born in China’s factory towns, where young migrant workers used wild hairstyles, digital avatars and online personas to carve out visibility in an invisible world.

Her material language — cheap yet precious, trivial yet monumental — stands as both archive and irony. Every trace is a selective record; every memory an exclusion. Based in London.
